Consumer and cyber matters I handle

Online fraud and cyber-crime response

UPI fraud, banking scams, investment fraud, digital arrest scams, and identity theft under IT Act Sections 66C and 66D. Coordinating with the 1930 helpline for immediate bank account freezing, cybercrime.gov.in filing, and Kerala Police Cyberdome for complex cases.

Consumer complaints and refund disputes

Filing complaints through the e-Jagriti portal for defective goods, deficient services, and unfair trade practices under the Consumer Protection Act 2019. Includes demand notices, documentation, and forum representation.

Insurance claim disputes

When an insurer denies, delays, or underpays a legitimate claim — whether health, motor, or property insurance. Building the case file with policy documents, claim correspondence, and supporting evidence for consumer forum or ombudsman proceedings.

FIR escalation when police refuse to register

If the police station refuses to file an FIR for a cognizable offence, BNSS Section 175(3) allows a private complaint to the Magistrate. I handle the escalation through Magistrate complaints, SP-level representations, or Cyberdome referrals.

How consumer & cyber matters work

From the first complaint to recovery

Consumer and cyber-fraud matters move fastest when the right forum is chosen early and the evidence is preserved properly. Here is who this page is for, how the work is structured, and what to gather first.

Who should use this page

You have lost money to an online scam, UPI fraud, or a fake investment

Speed matters — early reporting to the cyber-crime helpline and the bank improves the chance of freezing and recovering funds. Then the formal complaint and follow-up keep the case alive.

A product or service was defective and the seller is ignoring you

Consumer Commission cases for defective goods, deficient services, insurance rejections, and e-commerce disputes — with the notice and filing handled properly.

You are an NRI and need a Kerala fraud or consumer matter pursued remotely

How the work usually moves

Day 1–3

Report and preserve evidence

For fraud, report to the cyber-crime helpline (1930) and your bank immediately, and preserve screenshots, transaction IDs, and communications. Early action improves fund-freezing prospects.

Weeks 1–4

Formal complaint / notice

File the cyber-crime complaint or send a legal notice; for consumer disputes, issue notice and file before the Consumer Commission.

Months

Adjudication and recovery

Consumer Commission matters are heard and decided; cyber matters proceed through investigation, with recovery pursued where funds are traced.

Documents worth gathering first

  • The fraudster’s phone number, UPI ID, or account details
  • The cyber-crime helpline (1930) complaint reference, if filed

For consumer disputes

FAQ

Common questions

What should I do immediately after being scammed online in Kerala?

Three things, in order: (1) Call the national cybercrime helpline 1930 immediately to freeze the fraudster's bank account (this is the "golden hour" — minutes matter). (2) File a complaint on cybercrime.gov.in under the Financial Fraud category. (3) File an FIR at your local police station under IT Act Section 66C/66D and BNS Section 318. Do not delay — the chance of money recovery drops sharply after 24 hours.

Where do I file a consumer complaint in Kerala?

Consumer complaints are filed through the e-Jagriti portal (the official digital platform for consumer commissions in Kerala). Jurisdiction depends on the territorial connection, cause of action, and the value of the claim. Filing fees are based on the claim amount. You will need the invoice, payment proof, warranty/contract, a prior demand letter, and screenshots of any relevant communication.

How is a consumer issue different from a cyber-crime issue?

Consumer matters (defective goods, deficient service, refund denial, insurance disputes) are civil — filed before Consumer Commissions. Cyber crimes (UPI fraud, identity theft, digital arrest scams) are criminal — filed through police FIR and cybercrime.gov.in. Some cases involve both — for example, an online purchase scam may need both a cyber FIR for the fraud and a consumer complaint for the refund.

Can a lawyer help if the police refuse to register my FIR?

Yes. Under BNSS Section 175(3), if a police station refuses to register an FIR for a cognizable offence, you can file a private complaint directly with the Magistrate. I can also escalate through the District Superintendent of Police or approach Kerala Police Cyberdome for complex cases.

Lost money to fraud or stuck with a consumer dispute?

Book a consultation to get a recovery strategy based on your facts. For cyber fraud, time is critical — the golden hour mechanism can freeze the scammer's account, but only if you act immediately.
